Byford Family

I have received this enquiry from Jill Minter, and have already pointed her in the direction of the Hempsteads, but if other people wish to get in touch with Jill, please let me know.
SC

My name is Jill Minter and I have recently found your website as I have been researching a line of Byfords at Glemsford. I am fairly new to this and have little experience as yet, but I noticed that it was mentioned that the Byford family have a long history at Glemsford, but there is nothing else mentioned. Is it just that I am missing something or there is no more information on your site.

I've also mentioned the Google search box on the "front page" of www.glemsford.org.uk. which can come in handy on occasions like this - particularly given how messy these pages can become over the years!

Hempstead, Byford families

"Barry" writes:

I am researching the Hempstead family, and have just discovered the wonderful local history society 'A Glemsford family in the 19th Century' four part article by Sheila Willmoth.

I am descended from the William Hempstead and Kezia Byford part of the family, and would welcome help from anyone to go back beyond 1800.

Also I intend to visit Glemsford in 2009, and try to view the parish registers - How do I do this?

Thanks for your comment, Barry. Most of the Glemsford registers and related material are in the County Record Office in Bury St Edmunds.

Hempstead/Ampstead

Robert Ampstead has approached me, hoping to make contact with Rita Burgess. I am adding his search query here so that other Hempstead Searchers may also know about his interest.

As always, make the first approach through me.

SC

My surname is Ampstead and one of my forefathers was James Edward Hempstead ( surname changed to Ampstead at his wedding to Sarah Barnard, 26/06/1854, and the witnesses, Isabella and Benjamin Hempstead's surname also changed to Ampstead at that wedding).
Yours,
Robert Ampstead.

Hempsteads

Hi,
I am reseaching my father's family tree, and I have lots of information on the Hempstead side, including copies of the Hempstead gatherings.

My grandmother's name was Alice Hempstead (1895), her father was Harry Hempstead (1861) and mother Florence? (1866).

They were all born in Sudbury, Suffolk.

Alice had a sister called Florence (1892) and Gladys (1899) and a brother, Bertie (1886).

Harry's father was George Hempstead (1829), wife: Hannah Murrells (1830); they had 6 children.

I can go on: is this relevant to any body else's family?

Annette, nee Hancock

I already know of several Hempstead researchers (and associated families) - and will obviously put people in touch with each other - but, if anyone else has something to add ...
