Oakley and Chatters families

I've had an enquiry from someone researching these families, and particularly the marriage of Ada Clarke (nee Chatters) to Tom Oakley, both born (probably) in the late 1870s.

If anyone has any thoughts, particularly about the latter, because he seems very elusive in the Censuses, we'd love to hear from you via the "response" mechanism, or direct to my email.

Clark(e) family (but not mine)

Charlene Kearnes has sent me an email:

I was just emailing to find out if you had any info in regards to the Clark(e) family consisting of John Clark who married Dinah (Diana) Jolly in 1805 and had about 8 children in the Glemsford-Poslingford area.
The children were Eliz. b.1807, Mary 1808, Hannah 1810, Elias 1812, William 1813, Abraham 1816, Ann and John abt 1819.
They left for Australia, William and Abraham were transported as convicts to Tasmania.
Would like to trace the family further back or learn more about John and Dinah.
Any information would be great.

Bonny Family

I have recently been searching census records for my sister-in-law who is researching my husband's family.

Their great grandmother Ellen was the daughter of Thomas Clark(e) of Bures Hamlet (born in Bures Hamlet) who married Sarah, born in Glemsford around 1840.
The most likely candidate in the 1841 and 1851 censuses is Sarah Bonny, whose parents were both silk weavers in 1841 and whose mother was still a silk weaver in 1851 while her father had become a coal porter. In 1851 Sarah, aged 11, was employed as a silk winder.
It is possible that Thomas Clarke her husband may have been an offshoot of the Glemsford Clarkes, though born elsewhere, since he married a Glemsford girl.

Has anyone else come across the Bonny family. I will be looking on the site for the history of silk weaving in Glemsford.

Clarkes of Glemsford (but not me, honest)

I would be very grateful for any information concerning the parents/siblings of David Clarke b. 1799 in Glemsford. He married a lady called Sarah and they had (at least) two children in Glemsford: David in 1827 and Mary Ann in 1830 before moving to Halstead, Essex.
